Mary Remington (1910 - 2003) - British Artist

Royal College of Arts trained, and elected a member

of the New English Art Club in 1954

Mary Remington was born in Reigate, Surrey.

She studied at the Redhill School of Art under William Todd-Brown and was awarded a scholarship to the Royal College of Art, after which she studied at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière, Paris. Initially after her studies the only work she could find was in dental hospital, a taxidermist’s workshop, and in the coral gallery of the Natural History Museum in South Kensington. Her fascination with still-lives comprising copper pots, old bottles, mushrooms and grapes won her a devoted following at the Royal Academy of Arts, New English Art Club and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, which elected her in 1962; as well as other galleries in London and the provinces. She also showed at the Royal Society of Marine Artists, Royal Society of British Artists and the New English Art Club which elected her a member in 1954.

Examples of her work are in the collections of Grundy Art Gallery, Blackpool and in Brighton Art Gallery, Kensington Public Library and elsewhere.
