Edward Piper, a luminary of the British art scene, stands as a testament to the power of creativity and innovation. Born into a family deeply rooted in the arts, Piper's journey as an artist was destined from the start. With a natural flair for visual expression, he embarked on a lifelong exploration of painting, printmaking, and architectural design, carving a niche for himself as a distinguished figure in the realm of contemporary art.
He gained his love of watercolour from his father John Piper, but followed a more modern pop art path early on, showing at the IAC in 1965. He started his working career as a photographer and graphic designer, freelancing and working alongside his father.
From his time studying drawing under Howard Hodgkin at Corsham Academy of Art and the following years at Slade, Piper's works exudes a captivating blend of tradition and modernity, drawing inspiration from a myriad of sources ranging from classical motifs to avant-garde experimentation.
