A bright lively painting from the artist Fred Yates, created in vivid French colours. Coming with superb provenance, this painting came from Fred’s estate and can be found in John Martin / Francis Mallet book on Fred Yates time in France “C’est votre passion, Monsieur!” being the image on the lower part of page 83.
Fred would often wear a floppy hat when painting En Plein Air and if you look carefully at the centre of the bridge you can see a lone character with a white hat, did Fred paint himself in? A great collector’s piece for Yates fans that can be directly tied to Yates and his painting period in the area of Drome in South Eastern France.
