A strong image of 20th Century art from the mid 1960’s. A portrait of Saul (the artists’ brother) is a stunning and sophisticated oil on sackcloth. The Leeds based hermit artist Joash Woodrow uses this limited pallet in a 20th Century European Modernism style to create a personal portrait of his brother, capturing the spirit and warmth felt between the artist and the sitter. From a Royal College of Art trained artist, this portrait has a powerful, direct and timeless appeal with perhaps a cheeky glint in Saul’s eye.
