Peter Gerald Collins (1923-2001)
Peter Collins was a painter, born in London, who studied for several years at Royal College of Art from 1946 where his teachers including Rodrigo Moynihan, Ruskin Spear, John Minton and Robert Buhler.
He worked in advertising, ran an antique shop and gallery in Sussex and completed posters for organisations such as British Rail, British European Airways and J Lyons & Company. Collins also worked as a designer for ICI and Shell and held the position of Art Director at Odhams Press.
In the Mid 1970’s Collins and his wife Georgette relocated to Stanley Studios in Chelsea setting up an eclectic mix of art, antiques and sculpture securing themselves a position in the buzzing Chelsea Art scene.
As an exhibitor, Peter Collins showed at the RA, The first reference of him showing at the RA we can find is in 1953 with 2 paintings accepted, one titled (346) The River at Chelsea and the second (631) Power Station, Chelsea – He also exhibited at Balcombe Galleries and at Zella Nine Gallery. He was a member of the Chelsea Arts Club and Leicester Education Authority holds his work.
